Badwater

In late December of 2019, my wife and I set out for a weekend adventure in Death Valley. There had been some recent rains in the area, and we were eager to see how the rare weather had affected the park. To our delight, one of the most spectacular phenomenas in the valley was awaiting us as we arrived at Badwater Basin for a sunset shoot.

When it rains in the area (only about 2 inches a year on average), a temporary lake can form at Badwater, which is the lowest spot in the park, as well as in all of North America. And due to the extremely flat topography, the water is very shallow–only an inch or two–allowing you to literally walk on water. As you can see in the shots below, the glassy reflections make for a spectacular scene.
