Carrizo

Carrizo Plain National Monument is a massive area of protected land in Southern California that most are unaware of. Only about an hour northwest of Los Angeles, we ventured out there in the Spring of 2019 to see an unbelievable super bloom. The hills and fields were blanketed with vibrant hues of yellow, orange, and purple.

There are paved roads at the north end of the park…however, the entrance to the south is primarily gravel, so come with a vehicle that can handle a few bumps and some dirt 😉. For the adventurous spirits with 4-wheel drive and high clearance vehicles, there are no shortages of dirt roads and paths you can go explore.

If you’re looking for poppy super blooms, this isn’t the place for you. I’d recommend the fields up in the Palmdale/Lancaster area if that’s what you’re after. But I promise you, Carrizo in late Spring time won’t disappoint if we’ve had a decent rainy season.
